Overview:
During my trip in Portugal, I had to fly to Zurich for 2 days for a brief meeting. I had one day that was mostly free, so I decided to explore a bit. While I had not intended to do so, I ended up traveling a little over 11 miles on foot. Needless to say, a nice pub was a welcome sight. I really should have found somewhere more “authentic” to go but I was by myself, tired, wet (it started raining about 30 seconds before I found this place), and thirsty.
Chris’ Opinion:
This place was packed! I am sure some people were escaping the rain but regardless, it was pretty obviously one of the places to be. After walking around the place to get a feel for what the whole place was like, I found a chair right in front of the 15 or so taps. The atmosphere as a whole was great, though it was a bit crowded as I said. The seating, lighting, layout, etc. were all right on par with what I like. While I am not a smoker, there was even a very cool outdoor building-length table to stand at while reading your paper, drinking a beer, and smoking a cigarette. The bartender was very nice and when she wasn’t busy nicely turning down the advances from an animated pair of Spaniards next to me, was friendly and talkative. I finally decided to order some good ol’ Bratwurst and it really did hit the spot. A few pints later and I was ready to head back out into the rain to finish the last half mile of my exploring for the day.
