Overview:
After a particularly horrible day at work, I informed my dad he had no choice but to meet me at a pub. St. Jame’s Gate happened to be on my way home, so he agreed to drive up and meet me for dinner and drinks.  We arrived around 7, which for this place was a bit of an odd time. It was at the end of the group that stops by on their way home, and before the night group arrived.

Chris’ Opinion:
St. James Gate is a great place. I would say this is an archetypal neighborhood bar, but with a pub theme. It does not try to be anything it is not, and offers a friendly atmosphere. We were the only people who did not know someone else at the bar, but it was not by any means an awkward environment.  I can see how the place would be a bit wild come Karaoke or live band time, but despite that it is still a relaxed environment.  The pool table, ping pong, darts, and basketball hoop make it a tad busy. The food was good, though quite obviously was pulled out of freezers, jars, and cans. But hey, good is good.  The bartender/waitress scored major points for this place. She was friendly, attentive, and even offered a few suggestions for future pub excursions.
Karl’s Opinion:
The worst thing about St. James Gate is its location-the middle of nowhere (at least for me).
You couldn’t ask for a friendlier place.  Maggie, behind the bar, went out of her way to make you feel welcome.  I’m sure that’s what bartenders are supposed to do it’s just that not all succeed.  Definitely a “neighborhood bar” feel to it.  In my opinion, that’s what a pub should be-a place where you feel welcome.  Most of the patrons were at the bar and chatting with everyone.  Fortunately, we stopped in before the music started.
Great menu-both food and drink.
